With the hot season sneaking up on the women of Rio Grande Valley it is time for the ladies to start thinking about what to wear to those summer cocktail parties and nice dinners out with the hubby.
Picking out the perfect dress for a night on the town involves paying attention to current trends, your body shape, and your age. Both a current craze and a classic look for the evening is a structured dress. This is any dress that graces your form from neck to knee in a non-stretch fabric. This looks great on a woman of any age or body type because it emphasizes the womanly curves we all love and helps conceals the womanly curves we rather not think about. This type of dress also works for the beautiful bigger ladies if it has an empire waist.
The sleeves and the length of the hemline will depend on your comfort level and body type. If you have toned arms and nice skin feel free go sleeveless. You can wear a dress with spaghetti straps, an asymmetrical décolletage or even pursue a strapless frock with a sweetheart neckline. No matter which style you choose keep your eye out for anything unique. Nothing is more fashionable than having an untraceable look.

Now, not everyone enjoys showing skin so there is the option of short sleeves and three-quarter length, which is very flattering. This can help conceal the fact that you may not have been doing your arm exercises and that gravity is alive and well. One tip though is not to have long sleeves on a dress. It is out-dated and too hot for such a thing. You can wear a light blazer over your dress if you are really concerned.
As for the hemline, a safe bet is directly above the knees. If your calves are shapely your skirt can go as long as mid kneecap if you’d like, but if your calves are scrawny go as short as you dare. Revealing your knee and thigh creates the illusion of curves to your stems. A tad below mid thigh is an optimal choice in that situation. Just keep in mind not too to go too short with your dress if you were around to during the disco era.
For those of you who are in the mood for a fuller skirt, you are in luck. Designers have gone wild this season and have provided you with many options in this category. A full skirt is flattering for women of all age groups and sizes with the exception of those short in height. The full skirt can make you look even shorter, but do not let that stop you from wearing it if you are in love with the style. Simply wear your tallest heels.
To increase your chic quotient and to emphasize the thinnest part of your torso, add a wide belt to sit at your natural waist. You can use a belt that is the same color or pattern of your dress or you can mix it up and use one of a completely different look and texture. This is a very current trend that never goes away. Women of every decade have used this sort of belt to nip in their waist and look fashionable, however you will want to skip it if you are short waisted or do not have a defined waist line.
When choosing a color for your frock, try to steer way from black. Although classic and slimming, it is boring and everywhere you go half the room will be wearing it. Those with blonde or snowy hair should try yellow, those with tan skin must wear white and those of any coloring who are feeling feisty should embrace an emerald green, indigo blue or a deep rose pink. A pattern, subtle or fierce, would be a lovely option as well.
For the ladies who decide to skip a colorful dress and wear black, white or a neutral number, it is a must that color, fun and print is used in her accessories. When your dress isn’t a POW piece, your jewelry, purse and shoes must take on the duty of stealing the show.

Fortunately, designers like Prada, Gucci and Dior have taken shoes to the form of art on a mass level. There are open-toe, lace-up booties and gladiator heels. There are paten leather peep-toe mary janes and heels with wild adornments in the shape of gold orbs or flowers as well as traditional pumps or sandals in metallics and extraordinary colors.
Have fun with your stilettos, but wear only the comfortable
pairs, even if it means wearing boring shoes. Nothing ruins a good time faster than a blister or an awkward amble. That is why your jewelry and purse are there. If you can’t indulge in the very sexy and fabulous heels due to comfort, you can always have the impractical fun with the other accessories.
Gold is always an attractive choice for a necklace and earrings as well as interesting stones and jewels. The only thing you must remember is keep your outfit balanced when accessorizing. If your dress is attention grabbing keep your accessories subtle and vice versa. The exception is your purse. It can always be wild and need not match your shoes, but for a night out keep the giant trendy bag at home and take out your clutch. Your outfit is complete.
Now that you look as good on the outside as you do on the inside, you can sip your champagne in your stunning attire and enjoy Rio Grande Valley’s warm weather along with the small pleasures life has to offer.
