Cristina Elizabeth Maqueda, daughter of Carlos and Debi Maqueda, shown here at Texas Tech University, sporting her Red Raider pride, graduated 14th in her class at Sharyland High School in 2005. After two years of being flute section leader of the Mighty Rattler Band, Cristina helped lead the band to its first appearance at the UIL 5A State Marching Band competition through the implementation of innovative sectional summer
camps.

As a senior in high school, Cristina also devoted a tremendous amount of time to her community and single handedly planned a fundraiser through FastBreak Express Carwash of Mission that raised over $3000 for the Rio Grande Valley Chapter of Make-A-Wish. Cristina took her competitive and community-oriented nature with her to Lubbock, Texas, where she became the youngest and first Hispanic woman to win Miss Lubbock USA. Cristina is currently a double major in English and General Studies, with an emphasis in biology, chemistry, and Spanish. Her academic achievements include induction into the two most prestigious honor societies in the country—Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa.

She is a proud volunteer at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock and will be graduating Magna cum Laude with Honors from Texas Tech University this December. Congratulations to Cristina and her proud parents
